This course covers the analysis and design of magnetic components, including inductors and transformers, used in power electronic converters. The course starts with an introduction to physical principles behind inductors and transformers, including the concepts of inductance, core material saturation, airgap and energy storage in inductors, reluctance and magnetic circuit modeling, transformer equivalent circuits, magnetizing and leakage inductance. Multi-winding transformer models are also developed, including inductance matrix representation, for series and parallel structures. Modeling of losses in magnetic components covers core and winding losses, including skin and proximity effects. Finally, a complete procedure is developed for design optimization of inductors in switched-mode power converters. After completing this course, you will: ● Understand the fundamentals of magnetic components, including inductors and transformers ● Be able to analyze and model losses in magnetic components, and understand design trade-offs ● Know how to design and optimize inductors for switched-mode power converters This course assumes ONLY prior completion of Introduction to Power Electronics and Converter Circuits....

Very nicely explained. Prof. Afridi is superb and the way he solves the examples, it teaches a lot. He takes care of the simple things and keeps even the long lectures engaging and interesting.

The quality of the lectures is very good but the material of the course has some little deficiencies, at least compared to the previous courses of the specialization:

-Some slides are not completed. Dr. Khurram Afridi completes these slides in the lecture, but there are not the slides with the final result. I had to take screen captures to save this final result.

-Subtitles impede to watch correctly the video when explaining in the subtitles area. I had to switch off the subtitles to be able to watch the video correctly.

-I missed the pdfs of the homework assignments. I like to work on them off line, so I had to enter into the assignments to be able to see them.

-I also missed the questions alternated during the videos as in previous courses.

For these reasons I only give 4 stars instead of 5.

The course is very vast and knowledgeable. But the same depth is not found in assignments and quizzes. Assignments are very much easy to crack and hope some difficult assignments are provided for future candidates.

There is a big difference in the quality and depth of explanations in this course. Another big problem is that the profesor do not upload a hardcopy in pdf of the quizzes. In some computers is not possible to see figures in the quiz. Videos are too long and some lectures should by divided.

Very interesting but the quizzes are shockingly bad. I don't recommend paying for this course, you'll pull your hair out trying to do the quiz.
