About the Course

In this course, you will learn how to harness the power of Apache Spark and powerful clusters running on the Azure Databricks platform to run large data engineering workloads in the cloud. You will discover the capabilities of Azure Databricks and the Apache Spark notebook for processing huge files. You will come to understand the Azure Databricks platform and identify the types of tasks well-suited for Apache Spark. You will also be introduced to the architecture of an Azure Databricks Spark Cluster and Spark Jobs. You will work with large amounts of data from multiple sources in different raw formats. you will learn how Azure Databricks supports day-to-day data-handling functions, such as reads, writes, and queries. This course is part of a Specialization intended for Data engineers and developers who want to demonstrate their expertise in designing and implementing data solutions that use Microsoft Azure data services for anyone interested in preparing for the Exam DP-203: Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure (beta). You will take a practice exam that covers key skills measured by the certification exam. This is the eighth course in a program of 10 courses to help prepare you to take the exam so that you can have expertise in designing and implementing data solutions that use Microsoft Azure data services. This course is loaded with hands-on exercises in the reading, as students are required to import Databricks notebooks, and execute these notebooks to learn the PySpark syntax and functions. I was unable to successfully execute any notebook even though I set up my Databricks workspace as according to the screenshots and the given instructions. The discussion forum is unhelpful because there are complaints from other learners who also encountered difficulties without receive any support from the course admin staff. Unfortunately this is a very poor experience in contrast to the MS Azure DP100 specialization, where I was able to complete all the machine learning exercises on Azure Databricks. It could have been better if I could share screenshot and discuss my technical issues with a support staff from Azure.

The course material is presented really poorly. A women is reading pages after pages from a screen and probably does not understand anything she is saying. The videos are pretty useless for the understanding of how things work and the only thing i will remember is not to delete my databricks instance. Without google and youtube i wouldn't understand any of the key concepts.

Many mistakes in the exercises. They have all been reported multiple times and being mentioned in the discussion forum for more than a year. No one is taking any action to correct them.

The material is very dry just repeating the written content from the learn.microsoft.com website.

Any of the course examples don't work because of a bug so this was just a waste of time.

Time estimates were inaccurate, lab resources were often linked incorrectly, lab resources required corrections to function

Best course in the series so far, but the exercises were out of date and could be difficult to follow. Some of the exercises aren't free- I've been doing the entire course in one shot so I've already burned through my $200 credit. I was able to use a "free" trial of Databricks, though, so I was able to make it out for under $10 though. It's doable- just be sure to delete your resources! Databricks will still charge you for the VMs that it's set up on so if you want to get rid of those charges when you aren't using them, delete your databricks instance after you're done for the day.

The content could've been a little more descriptive. At times, it got a little overwhelming in terms of technical terminologies, but overall, it was amazing. The notebooks were a great resource, when it came to hands on learning.

Definitely a recommended course.

Lots of modules are broken and data can not be assessed for training. In the discussion forum this is voiced over and over again without any intervention from the course designers.
