About the Course

This course is designed to teach you the foundations in order to write simple programs in Python using the most common structures. No previous exposure to programming is needed. By the end of this course, you will understand the benefits of programming in IT roles; understand basic Python syntax; explore different code editors and developer environments; be able to write simple programs using Python; figure out how the building blocks of programming fit together; and combine all of this knowledge to solve a complex programming problem. We'll start off by diving into the basics of writing a computer program. Along the way, you’ll get hands-on experience with programming concepts through interactive exercises and real-world examples. You’ll quickly start to see how computers can perform a multitude of tasks — you just have to write code that tells them what to do....

An excellent course for those who want to boost their programming abilities on Python. It tackles diverse and challenging problems, for you to practice and round out every concept. Highly recommended!

Course presentation is good. Topic selection is good. Selected Strings, Lists, tuples and Dictionaries, using these program logic can be build. Examples are good and interesting. assignments are good.

I really like the course and have learnt many things. I have one major issue with the course, that is : The problems we have during the video lectures don't have solutions. When I can't solve a problem, I want to be able to look at the solution and learn where I did wrong.

Please add a solution to the solved questions during the video lectures. As it would benefit all those who couldn't solve them.

Definitely recommend supplemental reading if you're new to programming. No Starch Press has some good books. They helped quite a bit with the programming quizzes. I definitely had a hard time with understanding what was expected. It seems that what was taught in the videos and what was created for the quizzes are not matched very well, as if two different people worked on this course separately.

The first two weeks of this course were very fun, and I was able to understand and follow every step with no problem. However, starting the third week all away to the last week it became very hard. In my opinion, it will be very difficult for anyone who is just a beginner in programming. There should be a bridge the can connect better topics from week two to topics provided in week three.

Final project isn't 100% clear on what to do with words with numbers in them. By "ignore" words with numbers. it was meant to remove the numbers from the words and still use the words, however with uninteresting words "ignore" meant to completely remove them and not count them. Poor wording led to frustration and extra time to actually complete a pretty simple project :(

Course was really interesting and I enjoyed the videos and structure of the programme. However, I feel that the quizzes and assignments were not always possible to do given the material we covered. I found myself having to do additional research to complete the tasks when really the course should cover everything that is asked for in the assignments.

Overall this course isn't awful however with how it is marketed it needs to take a more baseline aproach and explain concepts rather than just expecting you to fill in the gaps through external research. If someone is going to take this they shouldn't have to spend so much time learning outside of the course afterall you are paying for this course.

They should include the solution for the problems in practice and graded assessment. Sometimes it really difficult to think for the solution and would take a lot of time and they should teach more examples of a particular type so that the concepts would have a better understanding. Apart from this the course was well structured and was very helpful.

This course is great for people who are new to the tech space, I recommend you watch a few youtube tutorials before this however, since not everything is explained clearly. I felt like if I would not have learnt a few things before starting this course I would not have understood them, but since this is not my first course I still manage.

I feel that there aren't enough chances to practice. While I can watch the videos over and over again, I feel that it is not enough. I also feel like the group discussion form should be more easily accessible while watching the videos. Instead of having to click away from the video, there should be a link there to make it easy to access.

It is okay. There isn't enough practical application and it tends to send you away to other sites to do most of your learning, which is okay I suppose because its reflective of what I imagine you would do in teh real world applicaiton, but it definitely undermines the content a bit and leads to a feeling of "why am I paying for this?"

The way the course was designed is like cancer! If you don't have any knowledge about python, chances are that this course is not for you. I advice to whoever want to take this course to first take another python course like python for everybody, and than take this course. Most of the quizzes cover what they didn't teach you.

The good: Covers basics, doesn't require live help to answer questions, many resources available for help and testing, was able to finish late

The bad: Terse, impenetrable wording of questions and problems, bad subtitles requiring me to go back and listen, Coursera's toolbar structure and mid-video question interface are awful

This course is truly a crash course. For total beginners, this will be challenging. Concepts and logic are explained very quickly and the questions on a lot of the quizzes can be tricky if you did not understand the logic of the functions from the videos or how to put those functions together to solve a word problem.

The instructor is jolly and the video lectures are encouraging, but I cannot say the same with the assessments and projects that they provided as I feel like it is too complex for a complete beginner to answer not to mention that there is no official answer and explanation part for each assessments. Overall, it's okay!

I enjoyed the instructor but I thought the examples were poor and there were not nearly enough of them before you were expected to have the material down enough to do the assessments. I also would have liked to see more examples and questions other than how to code algebraic formulas in the first couple of lessons.

Course is helpful for filling in gaps you might have in your basic Python, but probably not the best way to learn the language from scratch if you've never used it before. Consider having a supplemental textbook or guide to use alongside it, or spend some time playing around with a project offline too as you go.

All the practice and quiz questions seem to be more complicated than they need to be in order to teach python concepts. For example, there is a lot of math problem solving used as the basis for many of the questions that require a certain level of math understanding prior to writing or solving the python script.

Some of the quizzes had things that were not in the lectures. Had to do a lot of outside research to find the hints as to how to write the scripts. Some scripts I wrote got the right answers, but did not return as a correct answer. Rerun sometimes and it would give me a "correct" on the scripts. Weird.

It is not easy for anyone who didn't have enough coding background to learn it. I was stuck in the quiz of week 4. I think the quiz is way more difficult than what is showed on the lecture video.

I need to take another newbie-friendly course for python and practice more to assure my mastery of python.

The course content was great, at times some may consider it a little too challenging, especially if they're not familiar with programming already. There were numerous technical issues in grading and submission, these need to be ironed out, especially on assignments that are required to pass the course.

Just for the sake of the brand name google this course is getting overrated..Try to develop more content with different examples instead of lame af jokes..Being forced to listen those lame jokes is an awful experience..Positives are there but they are being forgotten because of the awful experience

Instructor was energetic, which was necessary to teaching this content. Readings were repetative of what was discussed in video. It would be nice to work more with codes and fill in blank exercises. In addition, it would be nice if correct answer after quiz was shown to learn what we did wrong.

The steps from one topic to the next one are very big. Often I needed to search for answers online rather then using the course materials. Might be easier for people with prior coding experience than first timers.

Also, quite often questions are quite confusing rather then a fun coding exercise.

The interface needs some tweaking. There are css issues all over the place while taking the quizzes. The grading for the final project doesn't really work. Python content is quite nice. Would totally recommend this course if you have no idea on the subject or if you need to brush up on it.
